She counters that it’s better to make your own choices rather than following the winds of fortune. In the final scene of El Camino, we’re treated to a brief flashback where Jesse ( Aaron Paul) and his now-deceased girlfriend Jane ( Krysten Ritter) are having a conversation we he says he likes the sound of going where the universe takes you. I bring up this scene because the tone of the scene is strangely similar to the conclusion of El Camino, and it makes me wonder how showrunner and writer-director Vince Gilligan sees these two characters and what values they hold.

It’s a scene that tries to have it both ways-Walt is a monster at the end of his story, but he’s also a man who liked chemistry-and you can’t really reconcile the two because the show has gone to great lengths to show that he is a horrible person. But I think the writers’ love for the character kind of peeks out in that final scene to show that they still have some affection for Walt even though the character has gone to great lengths to burn off any good will. He loses his family, he loses most of his money, and his legacy will be that of a monster, deservedly so.

Some may argue that the cosmic scales of justice have tipped to the point where Walt gets very little. He finds his enemies’ drug lab, and lovingly touches one of the instruments to indicate his love of chemistry and a reminder of what he was able to build. But in the final scene, after Walt has killed off his enemies and freed Jesse, Walt, who has been mortally wounded, gets an odd grace note where he gets the comfort of his chemistry.

The series went to great lengths to demonstrate the transformation of Walter White ( Bryan Cranston) from mild-mannered science teacher to monstrous drug kingpin. Really painful to watch for continuity reasons.I love Breaking Bad, but its final scene has always rubbed me the wrong way. If you watch the last episodes of BB, and then watch the scenes on this movie set on the same period of time, he’s like double the size. I can’t believe how Todd is so much more fat than he was on BB. I’m so sorry it turned to be this pointless thing of a movie.Īaron Paul lowered his voice a ton during this movie.

I’m generally against movies for TV shows, but I’ve had a few hopes about this one. Why add this? So that we can see Jesse finding the money and going to Alaska? Does anyone really care about this?Īs much as I loved Breaking Bad, I really disliked this movie. The scenes with Todd and the cleaning lady really didn’t add anything to the BB story.īB had a terrific ending. We see Walt in one scene, which felt more like “hey, here’s Bryan Cranston!”, than an actual, compelling reason to have him there. We see a few interactions with him and Todd.

What’s the point of this movie? We see Jesse looking for the money during the entire movie. I don’t know if this will be a controversial opinion or not, but it felt. I was kinda curious to watch it and I honestly didn’t like it a bit. I’ve finished the rewatch a couple of days before the movie, so that was great. When I’ve started my rewatch, I still didn’t know there was a movie coming out. I’m a fan of Breaking Bad and I’ve rewatched it recently.
